Two planned solar power facilities in California recently became the first to be awarded permits by the US Interior Dept's Bureau of Land Management to operate on federal land, possibly opening the door for other solar projects in the state. Chevron Energy Solutions was licensed to build a 45-MW plant in Lucerne Valley, and NTR's Tessera Solar was granted permission to construct a $2.1B, 709-MW facility in Imperial Valley.
