In this communication, previously unknown elements of the behavior of the Russian desman that allow us to suggest that this animal uses underwater olfaction with the help of the bubble-based system of collection and delivery of smell to the nasal cavity are described, and the functional limitations of this system in semiaquatic mammals are preliminarily analyzed.
