摘要

From three levels of analyses - nation-state, intra-regional, extra-regional - these three books examine the international political economy of policy development, reform, and recovery amongst a cluster of countries that were once popularized by many scholars, bureaucrats, and institutions as the "High Performing Asian Economies" or HPAEs, the "dragon economies of Asia," or the "East Asian tiger economies." From these three perspectives, the three books combine to present more than 1000 pages of 'Asian miracle' and 'Asian crisis' analyses seeking to reassure the global community that the region seems to be heading towards recovery. The credibility of the editors and contributors assembled to back this general theme are definitely impeccable. But so was the credibility of the scholars and practitioners who propped up and predicted the continued rise of East Asia before the bubble suddenly burst creating a regional and later global contagion. Hence, there will always be room to reflect on what has become a tumultuous area of the world.
