What constitutes being older? Is it chronologic age qr is it general well being? Even the names used for discussing geriatric dermatology offer no answer: chronologically challenged, senior citizen, pensioner, elderly person, retiree, or just plain old. Are the "golden years" becoming less than "golden?" This issue of Clinics in Dermatology is devoted to the dermatologic needs of an aging population and is titled "Geriatric Dermatology." It complements a previous issue, "Combating Aging Skin." The United Nation's World Population Ageing Report suggests that by 2050 adults aged older than 60 years-for the first time in the history of the human race-will outnumber young people. Dermatology has to face this challenge, for it is the discipline that is most visual, and one that can observe the rewards or ravages of time.
