Since 1988, the National Rural Health Association (NRHA) has been concerned about the health status of rural minorities and their access to care Since then, the NRHA has assumed a leading role in addressing the needs of these groups in an effort to eliminate health disparities among diverse rural minority communities. Hence, the establishment of NRHA's Rural Minority and Multicultural Health Committee. This issue of The Journal of Rural Health focuses on racial and ethnic minorities living in ruralAmerica. The NRHA extends a special thanks to their partners in making this special issue available: The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and the Office of Minority Health (OMH), DHHS Without their partnership efforts, this rural minority project would not have become a reality.
