Editor's note: The following remarks were made upon acceptance of the 2008 American Pharmacist Association (APliA) Good Government Pharmacist-of-the-Year Award at the APhA Annual Meeting & Exposition, San Diego, CA, March 14-17,2008.I will always remember how I was notified about this amazing honor. In response to his particularly noteworthy editorial in Pharmacy Today, I had e-malled congratulations to Dr. Gans. He had replied to call him the next day at a specific number. When I called, I was put on hold and when he got on the line, he explained he had just spilled coffee on his keyboard. I had expected to be talking about the editorial and new milestones for the pharmacy profession, but instead he told me I would be the 2008 Good Government Pharmacist-of-the-Year. I have been moving between elation and disbelief ever since.
