India ranks first in the world cotton acreage. India is the second largest producer, consumer & exporter of raw cotton in the world. India is the only country to grow four cultivated species of cotton and to grow hybrid cotton on large scale and presently largest adoption ofBt hybrids. Therefore, Indian cotton sector plays a predominant role in World cotton scenario. Recently it was noticed that India is the largest producer of organic cotton also in the world. It indicates the emerging prospects oforganic cotton in India and deserves special attention to boost the organic cotton production further with strategic plan & public-private initiatives.
