High speed spinning requires cotton with better fibre strength (730mm) were more in PRIS (18-44%) than PUBS (3-33%) and their frequency was consistent in PIUS, but decreased in PUBS. Hybrids with FL (< 28 mm) decreased in PIUS and increased in PUBS. The FL improvement was not apparent from mean data; however, FL was not deteriorated over years. Efforts to reject lower FL were evident from data. Mean fibre strength got reduced in PUBS (24.8 to 19.6g/tex) and in PRIS (25.1 to 20.1 g/ tex). This was supportedfromfrequency distribution data Thefrequency of hybrids having (> 23 g/tex) got reduced from 2002 to 2008 in both PUBS (21 to 0%) and PRIS (37 to 0%). The percentage of hybrids having (<21 g/tex) got increased over the years (5 to 41 %) in PUBS and (3 to 18%) in PRIS. The efforts to improve I^S were not visible. Although spinning industry demand long, strong cotton. Strong cottons with extra staples could not be released till now. While developinghybrids, breeders in India consider farmers as primary customers and hardly give emphasis for improvement of spinning potential of hybrids. The (S: L) need to be improved in hybrids to make cotton more spinning friendly at higher counts. Recently, cotton is available in abundance, the quality is neglected and probably leading to under spinning of cotton. Most cottons in the Indian market is FL 29 mm and FS 21 g/tex depicting needfor improvement ofFS, if not FL, which is not easy asFSis negatively associated with yield.
