A bottle of champagne broken against the bucket-wheel for good luck, followed by the applause of the miners and the technicians participating in the celebration. On 17 November 2017, TAKRAF Bucket-Wheel Excavator (BWE) SRs (K) 2000 No. 2147 resumed operations, after a comprehensive refurbishment process, at an important coal mine in Kazakhstan. This ancient ritual is usually practiced in occasion of the launching of vessels, but it has also become a tradition for the commissioning of refurbished BWEs. In fact, such a machine deserves to be celebrated as it represents a true mechanical endeavor. The gigantic size of these machines is self-explanatory if one considers their application.
