Determinants of Environmental Quality in Selected Asia Pacific Countries Based on Panel Estimation

2) emissions for selected 11 Asian-Pacific countries. Static and dynamic panel estimation was used in these studies. Based on staticpanel estimation, from fixed effects model estimation, we found that real GDP per capita (LNGD P) have a negative relationship with CO2 emission and thus validate Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC) in the long run. Other variables such as energy consumption (LNENY), trade openness(LNTO) and growth of urban population (LNPOP) have a positive relationship with CO2 emissions. The highest contributor to CO2 emissions is LNPOP, followed by LNENY and LNTO. As for dynamic panel estimation, we choose Pooled Mean group estimation over Mean group estimationafter performing Hausman test. Based on this estimation, the outcome of LNGDP is also supporting EKC hypothesis given that LNGDP has a negative relationship with CO2 emissions. LNENY, on the other hand, has a positive correlation with CO2 emission. This indicates thatover time, higher LNENY especially in the newly industries countries give a rise to more CO2 emissions and thus decrease the environmental quality. To respond to global climate change, it is crucial for Asia Pacific countries to develop innovative technology for energy use and practisethe clean development mechanism to reduce air pollution.]]>
