One of the defining characteristics of the age of unmanned vehicles is the way that the technologies open up new opportunities for operators. It is often the case that the anticipated use of a system turns out to be only the starting point on a journey that brings unimagined additional benefits. In the military domain, some of the initial drivers for the adoption of unmanned systems - such as removing the human from harms way - are almost incidental to the operational benefits that are realised once systems are deployed.
