This article shares the TAilings and IndustriaL waste ENGineering Center (TAILENG) perspective on the current state and needs for education and research in the tailings industry. TAILENG is a U.S.-based research center formed via a partnership of faculty at four leading universities: Georgia Tech, Colorado State University, University of California-Berkeley, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. TAILENG also includes in its organization world-class experts from academia, the consulting industry and visionary mining companies through its advisory board and regular members.
