There is a growing awareness of the role that nutrition plays in improving not just the health of individuals but also the economic outlook of vulnerable populations. New recommendations by experts call for providing high quality proteins, and this could represent sizable commercials opportunities for the dairy industry. Included as part of ready to use therapeutic foods (RUTF), and as supplement to fortified blended foods, whey proteins can offer measurable benefits in terms of body composition, strength, growth and improvement of immune status. Clinical trials are being designed and conducted to document efficacy for people living with HIV/AIDS and children suffering from acute malnutrition.
