On a recent birding trip to India, my guide handed me a list of species we could potentially see, including a mere 65 members of the warbler family! While some, such as the Yellow-vented Warbler, had helpfully distinctive plumage features, most looked virtually identical, with differences coming down to pernickety features such as the length of the supercillium or the ratio of the length of the primaries to the tail. I resolved then never to whinge again about trying to identify thornbills back home.
