With demands for increasingly skilled and knowledgeable employees and changing technology, there has been an even greater need to maintain high standards of education. Construction at Kansas State University in the USA will soon transform a small part of the prairie landscape known as the Flint Hills into a new, state-of-the-art facility for the study of grain and feed science. Feed industry professionals-along with professors, researchers and students-have been looking forward to the 'ground breaking' on the US4.3 million dollar feed mill, the first stage of the estimated US61 million dollar grain, feed and food research and teaching facility. Industry professionals-both suppliers and feed manufacturers themselves-have been waiting for this opportunity to extend and enhance the partnership between themselves and the feed science programme at K-State. "We look at this as a huge benefit," says Dr. Charles Fahrenholz, K-State alumnus and research scientist with Phibro Animal Health, Inc. "As an ally to the industry, the facility will get work done from a research and education standpoint. Progress is on the horizon."
