Procedures designed to disinfest transported coniferous wood, imported from North America to Europe, are discussed. The use of elevated temperatures (heating the wood to 56鳦 for 30 minutes) to eradicate Bursaphelenchus xylophilus and its vector Monochamus sp. showed the most promise. In transit fumigation with phosphine may be the best short-term solution for eradication in pine chips.
