This paper discusses the influence of photoperiod on the production, growth, reproduction and immune function of young cattle. The mechanism of action of photoperiod on altering milk production is presented. The effects of long day photoperiod (LDPP) and short day photoperiod (SDPP) on dry matter intake, milk production, milk composition, growth, sexual maturity and health are discussed.
