The aim of the experiment was to ascertain the influence of age on thyroid hormonal profile and their correlation with other serum biochemical parameters of goats under arid tropical environment. The study included 30 (15 males and 15 females) clinically healthy Marwari goats of different age groups (<1 Yr, 1-2 Yrs and >2 Yrs). The variations in the serum concentrations of thyroxine (T_4) and triiodothyronine (T_3) were investigated in different age groups and sex and correlated with other serum biochemical parameters. Although, the serum T_4 and T_3 concentrations declined progressively with advancement of age in both sexes but did not differ significantly among the age groups. The male and female goats of 1-2 years of age showed significant (P<0.05) difference in levels of T_3. However the serum T_4 and T_3 showed positive correlation with serum glucose and negative correlation with cholesterol whereas T_3 was found negatively correlated with total protein. In addition, serum T_4 and T_3 both revealed negative correlation with urea and inorganic phosphorus in animals of 2 years and above age group. It can be concluded from the study that the circulating levels of TH is not influenced by the age ofanimals; however, their significant correlation with other serum biochemical indices indicates that these hormones may affect the metabolic balance in goats to allow them to adapt their metabolism to homeorhetic changes taking place during growth.
