Plant and plant products are being used since the dawn of the history as asource of medicine. Beta-carotene, the most commonly available carotenoid, is the major carotenoid precursor of vitamin A and aiso an efficient quencher of singlet oxygen to function as an effective antioxidant (Bendich and Olson, 1989). Panax ginseng isone of the most widely used traditional oriental plant drugs and finds mention in ancient Chinese medical texts dating back to 2000 to 3000 BC (Shibata et al., 1985). The major active principle in ginseng is ginsenoside, a saponin. Ginseng has been claimed to have antistress, antifatigue, mood stabilizing and cognition facilitating properties (Mitra et al., 1995). Keeping in view the beneficial aspects of ginseng and beta-carotene, a study was planned to assess their effect on the performance of broilers.
