A new formula for measuring the progress of milk production among farmers in Haryana State, India was developed. 240 farmers were randomly selected from 8 villages on the basis of the number (1-2, 3-5 and >5) of animals (indigenous cows, buffaloes and crossbred cows). Least squares analysis showed that land-holding size and herd size were very important variables in measuring the progress of farmers.
