Data comprising of 4127 lactations belonging to 1613 crossbred animals maintained at Mahatma PhuleKrishi Vidyapeeth Rahuri, (M.S.) were analyzed to study the effect of inbreeding on production performance.The detailed inheritance charts of 429 FG (50%HF+50%Gir), 106 JG (50%Jersey+50%Gir), 576 FJG(50%HF+25%Jersey+25%Gir), 240 JFG (50%Jersey+25%HF+25%Gir) and 262 BFG (50%BrownSwiss+25%HF+25%Gir) and their interse born over a period of 29 years during 1972 to 2000 were preparedand inbreeding coefficient, of individual animals were calculated. Based on the intensity of inbreedingcoefficient all animals were grouped into six sub-groups as non-inbred, very distinct, distinct, moderate,close and very close inbred. The overall level of inbreeding during the study period was noticed as 7.03%.The effect of inbreeding was non-significant on lactation milk yield, lactation length and dry period in allgenetic groups, while it showed a favorable effect (P<0.01) on average fat percentage in FJG genetic group.
