摘要

Recently a special issue of the International Journal of Refrigeration was concerned with Ejector Technology. The first paper in that issue is the Editorial by Groll (2011), the second paper is a review on "Historical and present developments of ejector refrigeration systems with emphasis on transcritical carbon dioxide air-conditioning applications" by Elbel (2011). The present author fully agrees with the first sentence of Groll (2011) that "Ejectors are fascinating mechanical devices". He believes, however, that in the articles of Groll (2011) and Elbel (2011) the references to the historical literature have been somewhat selective and should be supplemented by some important original sources for intellectual property credits. In the Editorial of Groll (2011) references are given only to US sources. The earliest non-patent references there concern the papers of Keenan and Neumann (1942) and of Keenan et al. (1950) which deal with methods of analysis of ejectors. In Keenan and Neumann (1942) the analyses of Bosnjakovic (1936) and of Flugel (1939a, 1939b) are addressed, whereof Flugel (1939a) is a longer report and Flugel (1939b) is a shorter journal article. Interesting to note that the report of Flugel (1939a) had been translated into English already in 1941 by the US National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics and that this translation, Flugel (1941), is available today easily via Internet. Moreover also a book review on the report of Flugel (1939a) had been published by Sorensen (1939).
