There can be few fields of human activity that can be described in full in such a short article as this. This is certainly true of all the ideas and developments that constitute the history of ropeway engineering. Rather than seek to present a full historical overview in the framework of the 50th anniversary of ISR, we have therefore decided to focus on the industry's individual milestones and rarities, especially from the pre-ISR period, and to illustrate them with a selection of lesser known photographs of some famous installations.
