Recommendations for today's proper engine break-in are as varied as the types of engines themselves. Do you recommend that your engine be driven hard for a limited number of miles? Is it a low-speed, higher-mileage recommendation? Or do you break-in engines on a dyno? The point of the engine break-in is to properly seat the piston rings in the cylinder bores (among other processes, of course). The finish the rings eventually produce will allow them to seal properly and retain oil adequately.
