摘要

Condition monitoring at Cauldon Works cement plant in the Staffordshire Moorlands (between Derby and Stoke) had indicated wear-and-tear to the intermediate and final wheel shaft and the need to re-bore and re-line the case for the raw material mill drive. The work was scheduled during a plant maintenance shutdown in January 2009 - in an eleven-day window - and the gearbox was shipped back to David Browns Park Works in Huddersfield. This timescale became more challenging when the logistical difficulties of removing such a large piece of equipment led to a two-day delay.
