Textile machinery encompasses a wide range of highly different types of machinery. The catalogue of the International Textile Machinery Exhibition (ITME) includes around 300 different types, ranging from very small machines, such as stocking knitting machines, to enormous machinery and equipment, such as that used fur the production of felts for papermaking machinery or fur fabric finishing. Some types of textile machinery generate considerable noise emissions. These are primarily machines in which heavy components move back and forth at high speeds, such as weaving machines, knitting machines, needle machines and machines with very rapidly rotating components, such as spinning machines, thread-making machines, and texturing machines. The new ISO 9902 Textile machinery - Noise test code, constitutes a comprehensive noise test code for textile machinery. Its use will ensure the reproducibility of the determination of the noise emission quantities within specified limits determined by the grade of accuracy. It will enable manufacturers to be able to declare the noise emitted; machine users to be able to compare the noise emitted by the machines concerned; experimental verification of the noise control measures taken at the design stage; and estimation of noise immission (exposure) om the workplace or at the work station.
