Reducing CO_2 is one of the biggest topics in modern industry, including horticultural production. As a result the phenomenon 'food miles' is becoming a serious issue in the vegetable business. This is one of the reasons why the production of tomatoes, bell peppers and cucumbers in Mexico has very good future perspectives. Besides, both climate circumstances and the availability of labour are favorable for year round production. Production in Mexico is cheaper than in Canada and year round production is possible.
