In colder climates, reducing energy consumption is becoming increasingly more important in order to keep tomato cultivation cost effective. With current means there are plenty of ways to save more energy in the modern greenhouse. The journey starts byincreasing the focus on plant balance. Energy saving in tomato cultivation starts with a proper plant balance. Achieving this means it is important to match the plant's light requirement to the irradiance expected during a particular period. This prevents plants from becoming too strong or too weak and, therefore, having to be heated back 'into balance'.
