摘要

After 29 years of formal education, I am confident that there will always be much to learn. Doctors are constantly exposed to new information, new problems, new patients and new situations from the first day of medical school until retirement. The idea of a medical career devoid of so-called lifelong learning is almost unthinkable. Doctors, and most other health care professionals, will therefore spend their entire career engaged in the process of learning and will be surrounded by others who are also learning. Sometimes, because of greater clinical knowledge and experience, more senior clinicians will be better able to assimilate any new information and help their juniors to learn it. Other times, because of different experiences, perspectives, interests or time available for study, more junior clinicians will be better able to assimilate new information and could help their peers and seniors to learn it.
