In 2008, The Mackay School of Mines at the University of Nevada-Reno (UNR) will commemorate its 100th anniversary with a week-long celebration, April 20-26. Festivities will begin with an open house at the W.M. Keck Earth Science and Mineral Engineering Museum followed by an alumni re ception in the Lilli Brant Room in the Mackay Mines Building. The week's highlights include a ceremony in the university's historic Quadrangle to celebrate Mackay's past and present. Mackay alumnus, Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons, will be the keynote speaker. Throughout the week, there will be several activities on the Quad, in cluding barbecues, mining demon strations and gold panning. A gala celebration will be held on April 26.
