On 15 May the Peak District National Park Authority acted to stop unauthorised quarrying at Wager's Flat, on Longstone Edge near Bakewell. The Authority issued enforcement and stop notices against the quarry operators MMC Ltd and owner Bleaklow Industries Ltd. Under the terms of the notices all operations must comply with the 1952 planning consent, which states that limestone can only be worked in the course of extracting vein minerals such as fluorspar. Quarrying started at Wager's Flat in 2006 after the Authority issued enforcement and stop notices against work at nearby Backdate Quarry, at the eastern end of Longstone Edge, which is owned and operated by the same companies (see Mineral Planning HI p. 12 and previous).
