Gordon Halliday went to work as a planning assistant in Northumberland County Council's Structure Plan team fresh from post graduate study in urban design and regional planning at Edinburgh University. This followed on from first degree study in geography, also at Edinburgh University. Halliday expected to stay in that first job for a couple of years.That was 33 years ago and while he may have looked at jobs outside the council during that time, nothing tempted him away and today he finds himself head of planning strategy in what became, from April this year, a new council structure.
