LME price gains may see demand for primary aluminium fall off in the near term as midstream producers delay purchases until later in the year. This is if semis manufacturers expect prices to fall later in the year. If they expect further price gains then we should see a jump in demand in the near term. This will most affect the North American and European markets. Middle Eastern demand is being boosted by activity in the construction sector there. However, much of this activity may be coming from already started projects and there is a chance demand for architectural semis may fall off when new builds fail to materialize.
