Demand in the global market has been low for some time now, but despite the difficult times, there was always some hope of a turnaround. However, the latest setbacks seem to have severely affected market confidence and knocked most traders' hopes. The European and Japanese markets are as depressed as anyone can remember, and this is threatening the survival of a great number of smaller aluminium companies. Any hopes for 02 2009 have now been eradicated, with most companies now planning for Q4 2009. Nevertheless, unless demand improves in the coming months, 2010 is the more realistic target for an improvement, as stock levels are so high it will take around h to 6 months to filter into real demand.
