摘要

The intestinal epithelium is a regenerative tissue that is constantly renewed by a small population of stem cells located in the intestinal crypts. Because this tissue is subject to microbial and mechanical assault, it requires significant regenerative capacity in order to maintain its structure. Defects in intestinal homeostasis can have serious consequences for human health, and unrestricted growth can result in colorectal cancer. A number of studies have implicated Src and FAK in colorectal cancer, however most of these analyses focused on the processes of invasion and metastasis, and little was known about the importance of elevated Src/FAK at the earliest stages of cancer development.1 Similarly, very little was known about the molecular pathways important for intestinal regeneration, though a role for Wnt signaling in regeneration of other systems has been suggested.
