A new medical devices marketing authorisation system went live in Saudi Arabia on 14 February - the culmination of six years' work and a major milestone for the Gulf states. The Saudi government began to address its aim of implementing a system of control and regulation of medical devices back in 2005. Under an agreement in the Gulf Cooperation Council states, regulatory and economic development projects that could ultimately benefit all six member states (Oman, Qatar; Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates, besides Saudi Arabia) are distributed among them.
