摘要

This review is focused on the chemistry and toxicology of the chlorinated bicyclodienes and lindane, which are often described generically as polychlorocycloalkanes (PCCAs). These compounds are among the oldest synthetic insecticides and were first introduced following World War II. Thus, the PCCAs have been used for several decades, and eventually over 3 billion pounds of these materials were utilized for insect control [19]. Because of their long history, there have appeared a number of books and reviews on their chemistry and toxicology. In this chapter, I will not attempt to duplicate the comprehensive reviews of others, but will instead rely heavily on previous review publications and only emphasize the primary literature for newer findings.
