A preliminary study was attempted to develop a simple forecasting model for predicting the cashew yield from available secondary (earlier years) data on area and production. For this purpose the data collected during 1985 to 2000 were used. The errorvariation calculated between estimated to yields for states viz., Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa etc., (based on the above variables) and actual yields was found relatively low. This methodology may be adopted to forecast yield over large areas with minimum time utilizing.
