Designing an Internet Class for a Scientific and Technical Audience

Few occurrences have impacted the information user and the information provider as much as the introduction of the Worid Wide Web (WWW) and its accompanying browser software. As librarians at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics laboratory (JHU/APL), we were enthusiastic about the possibilities inherent in these new media, particularly as they applied to our highly specialized clientele. The following is a repoit on the development and implementation of a naming course designed to assist staff members in a scientific and technical research and developmeEt laboratory in identifying and making productive use of Internet resources. It will describe the Internet training needs and the interde-partmental Internet training team formed to meet those needs. We cover the development of the coarse objectives, its content, the instructional methods, and associated training aids for other infoimauon providers who are considering offering a similar service.
