As most of you know, SES renews its Officers and Board members at the time of the Annual Conference. This tradition has been around for longer than anyone can remember. A newer tradition, however, and one that will have a significant effect on the operation of the Society, is the two-term limit for all Board members. This change was made in the Bylaws several years ago, but did not affect those in office until this year. Everyone involved thinks that this change is healthy for the future growth of SES. Board members are expected to put in a significant amount of time and effort and over time this can cause a mild case of burnout. After all, the positions are voluntary and the pay is zero. New thinking, new ideas, and new perspectives are always invited, and with new people this should encourage fresh approaches to our programs.
