After the firm growth in 2006, Atlantic demand looks set to fall by 13mt, to 219t. This reflects much stronger hydro performances in Iberia, France and Scandinavia, the fall in gas prices which has hit the UK market and the poor state of the US coal market, where domestic suppliers are taking ground back from imports. Forecaster anticipates a 4mt fall in the size of each of the the Scandinavian and UK markets, plus 3mt decline in the Iberian demand and a 1mt cut in France's needs. In addition, Germany's generators are said to be over-stocked and the gains that were expected in the US in the last issue have again been reduced.
