Pecan South is pleased to introduce a new column this month which will be authored by pecan grower Tom Stevenson of Albany, Georgia, Stevenson has orchards in Texas and Georgia and will write from a grower's perspective. By the time you read this spring will be in the air and the natural optimism of the farmer will be evident. In spring all things are new and the chance to grow a crop that will be "the one" is here. All the mistakes we have made are lessons learned and this will be the year we will do everything correctly, the weather will cooperate, and crop prices will be good. Of course, as any gambler (farmer) knows, the chances of lining up three cherries on a slot machine are not always the best. Here are some thoughts that hopefully will help you improve your odds against the house.
