British Airways is planning to produce jet fuel from waste matter by 2014, at a plant to be built in London, the airline has announced.The facility - thought to be Europe's first sustainable jet fuel plant - will be constructed by US company Solena Group and is set to produce 72mn litres/y of fuel from 500,000 tonnes of waste. The self-contained plant, likely to be sited in east London, will feed the waste biomass, otherwise destined for landfill, into a high temperature gasifier to produce biosyngas to be converted for aviation fuel.
