Studies were conducted in the field to evaluate the efficacy of emamectin 5 SG against cotton bollworm, Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner). The field trials conducted during 2003-2004 winter and summer on cotton (var: LRA 5166) against the bollworm indicated that the new insecticide formulation of emamectin @ 11 g ai ha~(-1) was effective and the doses at 8 and 9.5 g ai ha~(-1) were equally effective when compared to standard check profenofos 50 EC @ 750 g ai ha~(-1), λ-cyhalothrin 5 EC 15 g ai ha~(-1), indoxacarb 14.5 SC @ 100 g ai ha~(-1) and spinosad 45 SC @ 60 g ai ha~(-1) in reducing the larval population. The lowest loculi and boll damage were recorded with the application of emamectin @ 9.5 g ai ha~(-1) and it was on par with 11 g ai ha~(-1) which ultimately increased the yield of cotton.
