Haldia—Dhunseri Petrochem & Tea Ltd. has shut down its Haldia, India, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin plant following a 15 Mar. fire in a raw material unit, Indian sources said. Dhunseri Petrochem, formed through the merger last year of Dhunseri Tea & Industries Ltd. and affiliate PET producer South Asian Petrochem Ltd. (SAPL), currently has a 200,000-t/y PET production facility in Haldia (PCN, 19 July 2010, p 2). SAPL earlier said the merged entity would soon begin an expansion of the PET plant to a new capacity of 400,000 t/y.
