The present invention represents a process for producing a biomaterial scaffold comprising the steps of: a) providing a hydrogel comprising a fibrin network and a polysaccharide network; b) physically cross-linking the hydrogel of step a) by freeze-thawing, and c) subjecting the physically crosslinked hydrogel obtained after step b) And lyophilization. The present invention also relates to a biomaterial scaffold for use in partially or fully increasing, restoring or replacing the functional activity of a diseased or injured soft tissue, as well as a biomaterial scaffold obtainable by the process as defined above.
