A fruit-specific expression promoter derived from Citrus unshiu is provided to induce the expression of later maturation period in fruits, efficiently express a foreign gene in fruits and control its expression, so that transgenic plants are efficiently produced. A fruit-specific expression promoter has the nucleotide sequence of SEQ ID NO:2 and is isolated from Lea5 gene of Citrus unshiu by extracting the total RNA from Citrus unshiu, preparing cDNA(complementary DNA) from the RNA, and amplifying Lea5 promoter by screening cDNA probe for detecting Lea5. A recombinant expression vector contains the fruit-specific expression promoter and a target gene. A transgenic plant or plant cell is produced by transforming a plant with the recombinant expression vector.
