A rotary lock comprises a turning element (8) holding a pawl (5) which unlocks by the operation of a release (6) having drive and strike shoulders against which a motorized cam disc (15) operates. The drive (21) and strike (24) cams are in different parallel planes to the cam disc turning plane with the shoulders operating together.
