摘要

In the context of a study different injury severity classifications were examined, to what extent these actually correctly describe the severity level of persons injured in road traffic accidents. In addition the situation of the severely and most severely injured accident victims was defined and analyzed regarding the accident structure and injury situation of car occupants. Accidents having occurred in Hanover and Dresden from 1999 to 2005, which have been documented in the database GIDAS (German in-Depth-Accident-Study) were evaluated for the purpose of this study. This corresponds to a statistically representative sample. Altogether 12,082 traffic accidents were available for this evaluation, in which altogether 30,785 persons were involved. A new injury severity classification is described the situation of minor, severe, most severe injured casualties: Patients, who were treated in an intensive care unit or patients with an ISS-score of more than 20 and a MAIS of three or more were considered to have been most severely injured (polytraumatized).
