摘要

Melatonin, a hormone acting as a transmitter of environmental cues, plays an important role in synchronising various behaviours and physiological processes, including reproductive function in mammals. In fish, melatonin effects on reproductive activity are often contradictory, with pro- or anti-gonadal effects depending of species, gender, time and dose of administration. Recently, the ligand/receptor kiss/gpr54 pair has been revealed to have a key function in the regulation of the gonadotropic axisand the timing of puberty onset in fish as reported in mammals. Cumulative evidences reveal that kiss neurons could be the major integrators of environmental, nutritional and hormonal signals, including the rhythmic activity of melatonin, being this lastaspect a black box of knowledge.
